Standing Room Only at Dr. Mullen's Biloxi, Mississippi Reading Seminar

Paul Mullen Biloxi Reading Seminar

The Day I Hit A Home Run At Great American Ball Park is a sell-out. Reading teachers claim the book serves as a bridge between best-selling children's books and now there is a book that will finally serve the needs of middle school and high school students who will want to read this zany tale of a baseball player living the American dream.

Paul Mullen Visits Schools In His Fight For Literacy

September 2007

Hello Family and Friends,
Our goal is to get information to you about our mission just as soon as we can, so our associates can help you in making a wise choice in selecting us to assist students and adults in need. As a reminder, when you purchase THE DAY I HIT A HOME RUN AT GREAT AMERICAN BALL PARK directly through www.thedayihitahomerun.com and we receive orders of over 50,000 books, Dr. Mullen will donate 50,000 books to this very important book drive. We are also accepting your donation dollars through PayPal and all dollars will be distributed to Crayons2Computers. A tax donation receipt will be mailed out to you if your donation is five dollars or more. You decide since our partner, Crayons2Computers, has 501(c)(3) tax exemption status.

We need books now! Currently, 30,000 books have been promised to Cincinnati’s Archdiocese Schools and 20,000 books have been committed to Cincinnati Public Schools. Our goal is to distribute 100,000 just in the Southwest Region alone. Where our services differ than many other literacy groups is that Dr. Mullen won’t simply hand out books; he will visit schools and teach students how to become effective readers and promote sports and fitness and above all else emphasize the importance of character building. Included in our first newsletter is a brief outline of who we are and why donating your hard-earned dollars is key to preserving our American culture.

Mission
To promote literacy as a critical skill required to succeed in school and in life

Target Audience (Author’s planned speaking topics by age group)

Elementary students—Mastering the art of reading

Middle Grade students—The importance of rules and succeeding at the next level in life

High School students—Preparation for college and becoming a responsible citizen

Geographical range

Ohio schools are in great need. According to the AP in 2006, Cincinnati’s median household income was the sixth-worst of the 68 largest cities while Cleveland’s median income ranked worst of all big cities. School levies continue to fail and as a result teachers have been laid off, forcing more students into already over crowded classrooms. Individualized reading programs have been abandoned and in some schools whole libraries have been dismantled. In 2004, Cleveland’s school system graduated less than 50% of its students with minority students dropping out at an alarming rate of 66%.
